The most common time of year to have family portraits taken is the autumn when all the leaves are full of vibrant colors – and understandably so! The trees are gorgeous, the weather is perfect (perfect weather defined by me: sunny, clear and cool enough to want a sweater or wrap), and you’ll have images in time to share with your loved ones at Christmas time. But, don’t neglect the rest of the year – each season has it’s own beauty and can provide the perfect images of your family.
For instance, I was recently thrilled to capture one of my favorite families in the snow. The snow lay beautifully on the tress behind them and covering the ground all around, everything was so bright and beautiful! Although they wanted photos without jackets on this chilly day we made sure to have their layers close at hand, as well as staying very close to the house so that they could warm up quickly! We also made it a lightning fast session (~15 minutes) while still capturing so many beautiful images! And bonus: they never had to go into the deep snow, but instead stayed on the plowed surface for their photos.
