Neutral. Farmhouse Chic. Simple. These are words that describe my photographic style and may cause you to love your newborn images . . . or not. I have a definite style to my photography – especially newborn images. I like to focus on the new baby, free from distractions and with primarily neutral colors. I tend to steer clear of animal outfits for instance (other than the occasional bear hat), and lean heavily on a more natural look. If you like what you see in my portfolio, then chances are you’ll also love your newborn images too!
Another reason you’ll love your images (apart from the obvious: it’s your baby!), I also get input from you after you’ve scheduled your session with me. Not only will we talk about you and what your vision is for the session, but also for what you plan to do with your images after! I’ll also send you a questionnaire with all kinds of inquiries about your home and style; this way I can not only create a session you will love and desire to hang on your walls, but I should be able to tell before the session even takes place if we’re not a good fit for each other. I love to take pictures, but if your home decor and my style don’t work well together, then you’ll likely not want to display these pictures after the session – and then what’s the point of having professional photographs taken?! All of these things combined: my style, your style, and your plans for the images, will help me prepare a session that you will love and cherish forever!
For each of the families that applied to participate this last month in a model call, the second step in their application process also included a questionnaire similar to the one I send to my regular clients. One parent asked me while here for their session what the point of all these questions was. I explained to him that it was a helpful way to know who would benefit the most from the sessions – if their style and mine sound similar, I’m going to be able to create a session they love, as well as one that fits nicely into my portfolio! Whereas, if they respond that their house if full of very rich, dark colors for instance, I can be fairly certain that the images that they would end up with aren’t going to match their style very well, and I want everyone to love their newborn photos and proudly display them in their homes!
This is part of being a full-service newborn photographer and why I ask for your valuable time and input prior to your session with me. Even if our styles are similar and you love my portfolio, without input from you, I may choose warm colors when your house is completely decorated in cool tones. Then the images you’d end up with still wouldn’t be a match for you. I love my job, but I love it even more when you’re thrilled with your images and are proud to display them for years to come!
For this session, mom let me know that she likes light colors with pops of blue accents for her little man. Personally I love it, how about you?
