True confession: I don’t usually like to attend baby showers. I do love babies and people and I am always so excited for the parent’s-to-be. However, the forced, uncomfortable interactions with people at most baby showers is really too much for this introvert most of the time.
However, I was at a baby shower just a few weeks ago that I loved and never wanted to leave! It was at a local bistro (read: a restaurant with a lot of personality/uniqueness) and included delicious food. Have you ever been to a baby shower where they served sandwiches with a bechamel sauce? Yeah, me either . . . needless to say, the food (and endless coffee) was amazing! Guests were asked to bring their gifts unwrapped (as an eco-friendly gesture), which also meant that they were on display for all to see and that the mother-to-be didn’t spend hours opening all of them. Instead, we were able to sit and talk for 2 hours without our own children present all while celebrating our friend’s coming blessing = amazing. Nothing felt forced or uncomfortable, even with a few games thrown in mix. In fact, it felt like I had planned an afternoon out for coffee with my good friends. That, my friends, is a great baby shower, even for the most introverted person out there!
