The birth of a child marks a defining moment in your life. From this day forward everything changes. Even if you already thought your heart was full, you realize it just opened up a whole new level — you’ve got a new tiny person to love. A person. That’s crazy! Believe it or not, just weeks from now your little one will no longer fit so tiny in your arms: they are only this little for so long.
This is why I love what I do! Every day that passes, their tiny features change ever so subtly as they get used to this big wide world outside of the womb, and I get the unique opportunity to help freeze this moment in time so you can always remember all the little details. By the time your newborn is 5 days old they’re settling into a new rhythm but by only 14 days old, they’re forgetting what it’s like to be in the womb, and the window we have to capture this stage is already closed! This is why I always recommend scheduling a session while you are still in the second or third trimester of your pregnancy. Even though we don’t usually know *exactly* when they’ll arrive, scheduling in advance does a couple of things. First, I take a limited number of clients with similar due dates so that I’m sure to have studio times available no matter when they arrive. Second, it gives us time to plan your session in advance so you can focus on delivery and your new bundle of joy without having to worry about booking details. That said, there are times when scheduling early doesn’t happen for various reasons. Trust me, I’ve been there too – pregnancy brain is a real thing, and life happens! I love what I do, and if I am able, I will always try to fit you in my schedule once your little one arrives. Unfortunately, with a family of my own and other clients already on the schedule, last minute bookings can’t always happen within the “golden window”, before your baby is too old for a newborn session. If you miss the chance for a newborn session for any reason, don’t worry, the first year of life is full of opportunities for milestone sessions as they grow and change. This beautiful newborn came to me with a call from Grandma that started something like this: “Rhiannon, I need an emergency session!!” It was my great joy to work with the family to find a session time that worked for everyone, and I’m so glad we could! This little man is so adorable and was very cooperative for his time in the studio. I hope you all love these images as much as I do!
